Though our visibility has evolved over time, the creative contributions of the Queer community have been ever-present. Throughout history we have told our stories, sometimes implicitly coded into larger tales or even offered with our queerness removed altogether.
Yet still we share them.
This program is an exploration of the voices of composers and poets, past and present, who have loved without convention, including two world premiere song cycles by composers Iain Bell and Brian James Myer. This recital will be a testament to the power of artistic autonomy that will leave an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who attend. Join us for an intimate afternoon exploring the creative minds and journeys of our artists and celebrating those who loved without convention.
Content warning:
This recital includes a set of three French songs with text by 19th century poets, Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud, which contain explicit sexual content. English translations for this set will be made available for audience members who wish to read them as a supplement to hearing them sung in the original language by Mr. Myer.
We offer this choice to ensure an enjoyable experience for every audience member, within their own level of comfort.
