Josh Quinn

Josh Quinn is a Chicago-based conductor, vocal coach, and pianist. He is the Head of Music and Chorus Director for the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center, and on music staff with Chicago Opera Theater as répétiteur and vocal coach. He transitioned into coaching and conducting after spending several seasons singing with various companies: Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Prototype Festival, Merola Opera Program, American Symphony Orchestra, Beth Morrison Projects, New Haven Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, Opera Maine, Left Coast Ensemble, White Snake Projects, and West Edge Opera.
This season, he served on music staff with Opera Omaha as a répétiteur for X: The Life and Times of Malcom X, and also the Chorus Director and banda conductor for their production of Suor Angelica. He was also the Chorus Master for the Sioux City Symphony’s performances of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony. This summer at Brevard, he will oversee productions of La Traviata, The Turn of the Screw, Into the Woods, Verdi’s Requiem, a George Gershwin revue, and a concert with Patti LuPone.
Dedicated to the development of new opera, he has been on music staff as assistant conductor, répétiteur, and head coach for the workshops and productions of many premieres, including The Life and Death(s) of Alan Turing (Chen/Simpatico), Taking Up Serpents (Sankaram/Dye), The Transformation of Jane Doe (Garrop/Dye), Freedom Ride (Shore), and Quamino’s Map (Wallen/Brevoort). He has also been the head of the opera program with North Park University, and was a vocal coach at DePaul University and Roosevelt University. He holds degrees in opera performance from the New England Conservatory, and is an artist member of Music for Food, a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in our home communities.
